Dear Ms. Whyz,
I have a good heart but am not very good at showing love. Sometimes I’m afraid to offer what I think would make a difference but mostly I’m not even thinking about it. This must make me a bad person. How can I show my love to that that are important to me?
Signed, Arms-length
My dear Arms-length,
Our self-centeredness (as we all carry to some degree) can sure get in the way of love. It has brought down many families, many households, and countless friendships.
I’m here to say, you’re not alone.
This is a common problem in our disjointed society, but without love we will crumble.
When we love, we seek the common good of others. In showing love, we further that goodness. Showing concern for others’ wellbeing is good for the receiver and the giver.
Remember, nothing is lost in the offer.
There are differences in how people accept or reject the offer of love, but that doesn’t mean we stop trying.
It sounds like that may be the case you find yourself. Have you stopped trying?
Give yourself freely as you can and you will find that giving comes for freely. Love will grow.
I caution you to give to those who have your best interest at heart as well. Be wary, but not to those who have already gained your love.
